Genesis To Open Software Testing Facility In Abilene
A new software testing facility will open in Abilene this summer, as a result of a partnership between organizations across the Big Country, including DevelopAbilene, Abilene Christian University, the work force development board, Texas Tech, Texas State Technical College and the City of Abilene.
Genesis Networks initially plans to employ 20 people with salaries in the mid-$30s, and total employment could increase to 100 in the next 12 to 18 months with salaries ranging up to $75,000 or more, said Phil Schubert, ACU vice president for finance and administration. The initial focus of Genesis' Abilene location would be software testing and quality assurance.
"This is an example of economic development that truly benefits the citizens of Abilene and brings good paying jobs in an area where opportunities have been lacking," said Abilene mayor Norm Archibald.
Genesis serves international clients who want to bring work currently being performed overseas back to North America.
"We are excited to bring jobs to North America that have been off-shored to India and other locations," said Nadav Sela, vice president for professional services at Genesis. "Our international clients anticipate benefits from having this work completed at a location closer to the end users, which are primarily large telecommunications companies."
Genesis Networks made contact with ACU because of a long-standing friendship with a respected ACU alumnus, Schubert said. But it quickly became obvious that the project would require community-wide partnership and support.
"This project definitely required a collaborative effort," Schubert said. "So ACU brought together representatives from DevelopAbilene, TSTC, Texas Tech, the City, local work force development board, Mark Horn Enterprises, Bixby Enterprises and others who could assist in the effort. The collective response has been overwhelmingly positive."
The testing center will be located on the second floor of the Enterprise Tower. Employee recruiting is already underway and Genesis expects to open the doors of its new Abilene facility on or about August 1st.
"Abilene was considered because of its proximity to the DFW metroplex, lower cost of living, local support for economic development and the relationship with ACU," Sela said. "We've been pleasantly surprised by the benefits of West Texas and Abilene. We hope to continue to partner with ACU and Abilene in the future."
