Genesis Networks was granted an incentive package of almost $2 million to start
its Abilene operation, a project local economic development leaders hope will rev up Abilene's high-tech
future.
Officials of the San Antonio firm announced plans last month to open an office in
the Enterprise Building, 500 Chestnut St., eventually employing 143 people.
Development Corporation of Abilene aid to Genesis would include up to $1.74 million
based on the creation of jobs paying a minimum of $30,000 including fringe benefits. The assistance per
job would start at $10,000 each for jobs paying in the $30,000 to $40,000 range, with greater amounts for
higher paying jobs.
A job training grant of up to $171,600 and employee relocation grant of up to
$17,400 also are parts of the package.
The company expects to hire local university graduates with business and computer
science degrees, said Richard Burdine, assistant city manager for economic development. The company also
plans to provide internships to students attending college, he said.
"I sure hope that we keep some of our graduates here," Burdine said.
Genesis Networks' services include software testing and quality assurance for
corporate clients including several Fortune 500 firms.
